<p>Old and New

Things to do getting ready to be a Player Character (here) or NPC (all the way down at A)

1. See what has happened recently

Quick Start Guide to the October 2019 Event will tell you the most important things to know. Both the quick overview of Kaurath and recent events.

2. Skim the Rules

Go to the rules page and look at the character options, the open, and the base headers to get a sense of what you may want to play.

If you played in Kaurath before 2019 take a look at this guide for returning characters.

3. Set up a LARPortal Account

Go to www.larportal.com

This lets us award any points earned from donations and lets you submit your backstory to give us a handle on how to write for your character.

Create an account there -- its fast.

Join the Campaign named Kaurath.

When you start to build your character be sure to enter things at a steady pace, being sure to let the screen finish updating before you save things.

If the character builder and the rules disagree, the rules are correct. Let us know and we can work to fix any problems.

4: For our New Players (or Characters)

We provide some starting items for each new player -- or new character if an older player has retired their character when you arrive at the door.   You can talk to us in advance if you want to arrange anything special..

5. For our Returning Player

5aIf you have existing magic items fill out the form here and we will convert the ones you want most.

5b.  If you held property with a charcter who is converting let us know what and we will make the appropraite adjustments in game. Land tends to remain, cash can be held in the banks and remain available, coins in hand are in hand.

Overall we are striking a balance that should not disadvantage new players and characters either.

5cFilling out this form will let us process what you did since you last played. It might be spell or crafting research, it might be something more striking or using one of your Information Skills.   It should be the the single most important thing you did.; think of something with direct visible effect or answer to a simple question -- be nice to the staff and help us help you with a useful and tangible answers.

6. Prepare your character

6a. If you are a returning character read our guide for returning characters here.

6b. Join our Facebook group

Join our Facebook Group and we can all help you out.  Just ask, we are friendly!

6c. Come to an on-line Character Creation Sessions

These are scheduled on demand, ask us directly or in the Facebook discussion group.

6d. Read the rules and work on it yourself, asking us question as needed

You can reach us by email through the rules here at kaurath.com.

6e. All of the above

We are here to help.

7. Visit LARPortal to set up your character

Visit LARPortal.com and create and account
Join our campaign, Kaurath

Keep building out your character. We will have in person and on line character building sessions to help. Some have already taken place. More are coming and you can also contact our player help staff for their aid.

8. Add notes on Food Allergies, etc.

Adding notes on Food Allergies will help our kitchen staff since we provide Food from late Friday through midday Sunday. And any medical notes we need to know, or share with an EMT.

9. Register for the event

Register for a specific upcoming game of ours as either a PC or NPC

Include your housing notes there. Note that the housing code is not very bright so its really good for a team to all register together to get into the same cabin be it an 4 double bunk cabin with a fireplace or the more individual three double bunk cabins without. Make sure you include notes if you need a bottom bunk, they are limited supply at times and we have several folks who needed them for practical and medical reasons like CPAP machines.

10. Pay

NPCing is free, but the PC's help cover the costs and should go here to pay.

New players pay half price for their first two events.  Treat a weekend event as a one day or two of you pay once and just note that it is to cover you both.

Children who are players pay as players but babes in arm and other children not actively playing are free (first one) or halt price (the rest).

11. Sign the Waiver

If you have not done this this year,

Print out the Accident Waiver, fill it out, and bring it along.

12. Look awesome, be awesome, have fun!

It will be amazing. Its the first season under these rules so we are all taking things easy and having a no harm no foul approach as we get to know the shape of the future.

Folks have put together a pintrest board with some look hints for the different kin you can play: https://www.pintrest.com/kaurathlarp/

Remember to pack well.

Notes if you are under 18: We need a parent or legal guardian with you on site at the game. If they are not coming with you then you need to arrange to for them to designate an adult accompaning you as temporary guardian. We hopes it is not an issue but just in case something happens, like a slip while running thorugh the woods, we need a responsible adult present to deal with things.

Persons under 18 need to be qualified to engage in combat. Speak with our Marshals at the start of an event. Until then you can still participate but can not wieled weapons and must wear the blue glowing headband that marks you as someone not to be attacked. (A number of us wear them from time to time as weather or medical issues make us non-combat. Chat with the senior staff on site and we will do what we can to help.)

13. Fill out the Post Event Letter after the Event

The PEL covers both how your event went and lets you tell us what Info Skill or action you are taken between Events.

Family notes: Children who are playing full characters and are participating in combat count as normal players.
Children who are not ready to participate in combat must wear a glowing blue headband, avoid combat.
The first child accompanying a parent is free as the parent must be spending time paying attention to them.
Each subsequent child pays half price, or each pair of children pay as one adult, covering the added costs.
Babes in Arms are not counted. All children must be actively supervised by a parent or guardian.

Merchants: if you are spending the event selling not roleplaying or are actively support ongoing plots your fees are capped at half price to contribute to our site costs.

Things to do if you plan to be a Non-Protagonist Character

A. Visit LARPortal to set up your character

Visit LARPortal.com and create and account
Join our campaign, Kaurath

Indicate that you plan to NPC for us.

B. Add notes on Food Allergies

Adding notes on Food Allergies will help our kitchen staff since we provide Food from late Friday through midday Sunday. And any medical notes we need to know or have handy to pass on in case we need to call a service.

C. Register for the event

Register for a specific upcoming game of ours as an NPC

Make sure you include notes if you need a bottom bunk, they are limited supply at times and we have several folks who needed them for practical and medical reasons.
This is it for an NPC. The event is free, the food from Friday through Sunday is included. We actually provide some basic pizza on Friday for those of you who show up and helping set up.

D.  Sign the Waiver

If you have not done this this year,

Print out the Accident Waiver, fill it out, and bring it along.

E. Show up. Look awesome, be awesome, have fun!

It will be amazing.

Remember to pack well.

If Accelerant is new to you remember most calls you hear will be Effect by Trait such as "2 Damage by Fire". If there is no call it is one damage. After three blows (A flurry) take a breath, check that you are not too close, the continue. The rest of the calls are pretty obvious and somone should be with you on each adventure/module to help if needed. A summary of all the effects which are not obvious can be found here.

When you run out of vitality fall down. If searched and you have treasure given them a piece of the treasure. After a minute of being ignored rise as a spirit, eyes down hands to the side and move away from the fight. You may well be coming back into the fight as another similar NPC. Your card or the experienced NPC handling the module can let you know.

If you can arrive in the 4-6pm Friday window and help set up that is a big plus but we appreciate all the time you can contribute.

When you arrive check in at Cabin 17. LEt us know you are here to NPC and if you are new to Kaurath or Accelerant let us know that as well. If you need a copy of the map it is available in line, here.

An added plus -- NPCs earn the same credit toward a character as you would if you PCed it here. And you can put those days of credit towards any other friendly LARP where you may have a player character -- we are in general always willing to trade as part of our policy of supporting the hobby generally.

After the event submit a Post Event Letter to let us know how things went and what In-Between Game Actions your character will be working on at https://forms.gle/rAATTLibiMAJo6eT6
